Three People Arrested as Police Recover Three Fire Arms.

Police in Marsabit County are holding three suspects in connection with possession of firearms in an operation that has seen three more guns recovered.

The suspects, two drivers and an Ethiopian national, were nabbed between Segel and Kargi areas where the officers were conducting patrols during the weekend.

“The security team stopped and searched two motor vehicles between Segel and Kargi, they arrested the drivers and a suspected illegal alien of Ethiopian origin,” the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Further, NPS noted that the ongoing crackdown in the banditry attack-prone area had seen three Mark 4 riffles surrendered to the local authority through the elders.

“The team conducted intensive patrols within Kargi Division and recovered three Mark 4 Rifles that had been surrendered to the Chief of Kargi Location by the elders,” NPS stated.

The multi-agency noted that the weaponry was taken to Marsabit Police Station, for safe keeping as the men were handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further probe.

This comes as Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i directed a disarmament operation dubbed ‘Rejesha Amani Marsabit’ operation where police officers in the county have recovered over 3,000 rounds of ammunition and 200 guns.
