Schools will not Close if Kenya Holds Repeat Elections.

Schools across the country will not close for the by-elections next week, nor will they be closed if Kenya holds repeat elections, according to Education CS George Magoha.

Magoha, speaking to the media while commissioning phase 2 Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms in Embakasi,, said his Ministry would work closely with the IEBC to ensure that the polls do not disrupt school activities.

The CS stated that some decisions would be made in consultation with other ministries and at the appropriate time.

The Education CS stated that some of the discussions involve figuring out how the by-election can be held in tertiary institutions so that students taking their National Examinations this year don’t have their studies disrupted.

Students, according to Magoha, would stay in their dorms throughout the election and resume classes as soon as they were over.

“If the students are already in the boarding schools and the classrooms are to be used for a day or so, those students can be for example be told to play games or remain in the hostels,” CS Magoha said.

During the same address to the media, CS Magoha also assured parents that their children would be safe as schools resume on Thursday.
