<\/figure>\n\n\n“The devastating effects of the rains in some of the schools are so severe that it will be imprudent to risk the lives of learners and staff before water-tight measures are put in place to ensure adequate safety of all affected school communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Based on this assessment, the Ministry of Education has resolved to postpone the reopening of all primary and secondary schools by one week, to Monday, May 6, 2024,” Machogu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The schools were to reopen for term two on April 29 .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CS stated that his Ministry will collaborate with pertinent organisations and interested parties to implement strategies to lessen the negative impacts of the rains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He continued by saying that they would also offer frequent updates on all advancements in the field of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Parents Association suggested on Sunday that the opening dates of the schools in the impacted areas be changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This occurred when the meteorological agency issued a warning about more intense rain in the upcoming days, with over 90 deaths documented to date and several injuries and missing persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In order to ensure the safety of both kids and instructors, Kobia urged the government to conduct an audit of the number of schools that were impacted by the rains and consider modifying the opening dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are keenly monitoring the ongoing rains and working with the government so that the lives of the students are safe as the schools reopen for the second term,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
