After the military coup in Niger, France soon wants to evacuate its citizens from the West African country.\u00a0The Swiss foreign department is aware of the departure flights and is in contact with Swiss citizens on site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The French Foreign Ministry said the evacuation should begin on Tuesday. Other Europeans who wanted to leave the country could also come with them. Around 500 to 600 French citizens are in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) told the Keystone-SDA news agency that it was in contact with the French authorities and the Swiss on the ground.\u00a0The EDA did not provide any further information on Tuesday<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it recalled the Swiss Abroad Act, according to which the FDFA and the representations inform nationals and their families in the event of a crisis and help as far as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision to leave a crisis region is made voluntarily, at your own risk and at your own expense.\u00a0The federal government can participate in search and rescue measures.\u00a0The FDFA also referred to its helpline… <\/p>\n\n\n\n
