The military has been in power in Niger since July, in Burkina Faso since last year, and in Mali there was the most recent coup in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><span>Malian interim president Colonel Assimi Go\u00efta announced the signing of a charter establishing the so-called Alliance of Sahel States (AES).\u00a0&#8220;The aim of the Charter is to create an architecture of collective defense and mutual assistance between the Parties,&#8221; the document says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With the Charter, the contracting parties undertake to combat\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/de\/terrorismus\/t-19135641\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>terrorism<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0and organized crime.\u00a0&#8220;Any violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of one or more Contracting Parties shall be considered aggression against the other Contracting Parties and shall oblige all Contracting Parties to provide assistance and remedy&#8230; including the use of armed force.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/de\/burkina-faso\/t-18030005\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Burkina Faso&#8217;s<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0interim president Ibrahim Traor\u00e9 and the Nigerien regime leader Abdourahamane Tiani were also\u00a0seen in photos signing the document.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span>Mali and Burkina Faso had already sided with Niger when the West African community of states\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/de\/westafrikanische-wirtschaftsgemeinschaft-ecowas\/t-66446453\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>ECOWAS<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0threatened military intervention after the coup there.\u00a0In the dispute, all three states have turned away from the ex-colonial power France, which had previously provided military aid.\u00a0Mali relies on mercenaries from the Russian Wagner Group in the fight against terrorists.<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cradior.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230918_154835_174-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ud83d\udea8AFRICA \ud83d\udea8 The West African states of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso have in common that they are ruled by military regimes.\u00a0According to information from Bamako, they Have now formed a defense alliance&#8230;.
