Five people, including four family members, died in a landslide on Tuesday following a night of heavy rainfall in Kasisit, Baringo County.

The landslide occurred at around 11 pm, also affected Kapkombe area, claiming the life of a mother who was buried alive by debris, with another person reported missing and two graves swept away.

The deceased woman’s husband, who survived the ordeal, narrated that he was left stranded at Kabarnet town owing to the downpours, opting to spend the night in the township.


He later got word that his entire house, wife and grandfather had been buried alive.

The nature of the landslide was immense, promting the Kenya Red Cross and Baringo County Disaster Department to launch search missions.

By the time of going to press, only one body was still missing, with five others having been found.
