Tuesday marked the start of the second day of the KDF championship at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, where Africa Games champion Emily Wamusyi Ngii emerged victorious in the 10km race walk category.

Emily Ngii won the race with a time of 48:40:2 and Moi Air Base’s Kate Assumpta (52:15:1) and Naomi Chepkirui (53:25:54), who came in second and third, respectively.

In the men’s division, Simon Wachira won with a time of 43:05:14, closely followed by Stephen Mutuku, while Nicodemus Musau from Modika took third.

In the other final, senior private Leah Jeruto Kibet, a rookie from Kipkaren in Elgeyo Marakwet County, defeated Diana Chepkorir and Mercy Wanjiru to win her first KDF title in the 3000m ladies steeple chase with a time of 9:47:75.

Notwithstanding the success, Jeruto emphasised her desire to get a berth.

“I am happy with the outcome today, but I am fully focused on securing qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“I am scheduled to participate in some races, one of them being in Poland and am confident of achieving my ambition.”

Nanyuki-based Vivian Chebet eased to victory in the 400-meter final by cutting the tape at 54:32, as Loice Morara of MAB came second.
