Transport was paralysed on Monday morning, July 29, along the Kabarnet-Eldama Ravine road after a section of the road developed huge cracks after a landslide.

In the photos shared on social media some parts of the section of the road, which runs through a hilly region, had fallen off a cliff.

A few locals were spotted on the scene as they put stones on the section to warn motorists of the impending danger.

The incident follows heavy rainfall that is currently being received in some parts of the country.

On Friday, July 26, the Kenya Meteorological Department warned of continued rainfall in various regions for five days.

In a statement, the weatherman noted that the rains will be experienced in parts of the east and west highlands of Rift Valley, Lake Victoria basin, central Rift Valley, and northwestern Kenya.

“Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley, and North-western Kenya.

“Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley,” read part of the statement.
