A driver competing in Hungarian motorsport rally skidded off and crashed into spectators on Sunday, authorities said

Four people perished and several others sustained serious injuries.

The incident occurred between the towns of Labatlan and Bajot in the northern Komarom Esztergom county.

According to a police report it is not clear why the vehicle veered off the road.

Ambulances and rescue team were dispatched to scene and the rally ended

Police said the investigation is underway.
