Turkey Beat Austria 2-1 as Quarter final Lineup at Euro 2024 Ends.

Posted on July 3, 2024July 3, 2024 By Naomy Mbaka No Comments on Turkey Beat Austria 2-1 as Quarter final Lineup at Euro 2024 Ends.

The quarter-final lineup at Euro 2024 has now been completed after a thrilling last round-of-16 tie in Leipzig.

Turkey came out on top 2-1 against Austria in the teeming rain at Red Bull Arena, with Merih Demiral scoring the fastest knockout goal in European Championship history after only 57 seconds on Tuesday night.

He doubled his tally in similar fashion just before the hour mark, though half-time substitute Michael Gregoritsch hit back swiftly through another set-piece to tee up a grandstand finish.

The Freiburg forward then thought he had dramatically forced extra time with a last-gasp effort, only to be denied by an absolutely sensational save from Turkey goalkeeper Mert Gunok that drew comparisons with England legend Gordon Banks’ famous stop to deny the iconic Pele at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.

Austria’s wait for a first quarter-final appearance at a major international tournament since 1954 goes on, while Turkey are through to the last eight for the first time since 2008 as they prepare to face the Netherlands in Berlin on Saturday evening after Ronald Koeman’s side brushed aside Romania 3-0 in Munich earlier on Tuesday.
