Former President Moi’s Grandson,Collins Kibet Sentenced to Seven Days in Jail

Posted on September 19, 2024September 19, 2024 By Naomy Mbaka No Comments on Former President Moi’s Grandson,Collins Kibet Sentenced to Seven Days in Jail

The grandson of former President the late Daniel Moi,Collins Kibet has been sentenced to seven days in jail for contempt.

Nakuru Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion on Thursday, September 19 directed that Kibet be committed to jail at Nakuru GK Prison for disobeying a court order that obligated him to support his children.

Kibet’s arraignment in court follows his arrest in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, on Wednesday, September 18.

He is accused of failing to provide for the upkeep of the children he sired with his estranged wife Gladys Jeruto Tagi. Prior to his arrest, Kibet has allegedly been on the run for months.

During today’s court session, Tagi — through her lawyer Elizabeth Wangari — prayed to the court to commit Kibet to civil imprisonment for defying court summons too.

“The warrant of arrest related to disobedience of the lawful decree was issued by this court on June 2, 2022. To date, there is no compliance with the said decree,” Wangari argued.

The court also heard that Kibet did not cater for the children’s enrollment at Mustard Seed International School, an action that not only disrupted their education but also “subjected them to mental anguish.”

Kibet’s lawyer, however, pleaded with the court to grant him more time as he is currently facing financial challenges, a situation that has been exacerbated by the ongoing succession disputes concerning her late father Jonathan Toroitich’s estate.
