The Ministry of Health has confirmed three new cases of Mpox in the country after more than a month without infections, taking the total number of cases recorded so far to 17.

Health Cabinet Secretary Dr Deborah Barasa announced on Friday that the cases were recorded in Mombasa, Nakuru, and Nairobi counties.

The cases are distributed as follows: Nakuru (3), Kajiado (2), Bungoma (2), Taita Taveta (1), Busia (1), Nairobi (2), Mombasa (2), Makueni (1), Kericho (1), Uasin Gishu (1), and Kilifi (1).

CS Barasa noted that, of the confirmed cases, 13 have fully recovered and three individuals are undergoing treatment.

She also stated that the number of deaths still remains at one, which occurred on October 11, 2024, from a patient who previously tested positive for Mpox and later recovered.

“So far, eighty-three (83) contacts have been identified, with seventy-eight (78) completing the required 2I-day follow-up. Of these contacts, three (3) have tested positive for Mpox, and two (2) remain under active follow-up,” stated the CS.

“In the last 24 hours, 15.068 travellers have been screened at Points of Entry (POEs), bringing the cumulative number to 1,701,813 screened across 26 POEs.”

The Health CS further noted that the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) has received and tested 271 samples to date, with 17 confirmed positive, 250 testing negative, and 4 others still being tested.
