Nairobi, Kenya – July 4, 2025
President William Ruto has addressed recent media reports about the construction of a church within State House Nairobi, confirming the project and firmly standing by his decision.
“Naambiwa kwa magazeti leo wanasema najenga kanisa State House. Ni ukweli. I have no apologies to make for that,” said the President.
Ruto made the remarks during a public event earlier today, responding to headlines that questioned the appropriateness and funding of the church project. He revealed that the previous place of worship was a kanisa ya mabati (iron-sheet church), which he found upon entering office.
“Hapa State House nilikuta kanisa ya mabati. Na sijengi na pesa ya serikali, najenga na pesa yangu,” he stated.
Ruto’s Faith and Leadership
The President, known for openly displaying his Christian faith, has routinely held prayer meetings and interdenominational fellowships at State House. His latest declaration emphasizes a continued commitment to faith-driven leadership, even amid criticism.
Critics have raised concerns about the blurred line between church and state, while supporters view the project as a personal choice, especially since Ruto clarified that public funds are not being used.
Public Reaction and Debate
The statement has sparked widespread debate on social media and political circles. Some citizens praised the president’s personal investment in faith, while others questioned the symbolism and timing, considering national economic concerns.
This development comes amid a politically charged climate, where transparency and governance issues remain high on the public agenda.
