André Onana Set to Leave Manchester United for Trabzonspor

Posted on September 8, 2025September 8, 2025 By June Wambui No Comments on André Onana Set to Leave Manchester United for Trabzonspor

Manchester, Sept. 8, 2025 — The long-speculated André Onana Manchester United exit has finally happened. The Cameroon international is set to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan, ending a frustrating spell at Old Trafford.

Why André Onana Is Leaving Manchester United

Onana arrived at United with high expectations after his Champions League run with Inter Milan. However, his time in England has been marked by inconsistency. High-profile errors, including a costly display in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby, eroded the manager’s trust.

Competition within the squad also grew tougher. The arrival of Belgian keeper Senne Lammens and the steady form of Altay Bayindir meant Onana slipped to third choice. He has played just one match this season, a clear sign that a change was inevitable.

The Trabzonspor Deal Explained

Manchester United and Trabzonspor have agreed on a loan deal, pending Onana’s approval. Reports suggest the move includes a pay rise and performance bonuses, a welcome boost after his wages were cut when United failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The deal benefits both parties:

  • Onana gains more playing time and financial security.
  • United free up wages and continue their rebuild under Ruben Amorim.

What the Exit Means for Manchester United

With Onana’s departure, United will rely on Lammens, Bayindir, and veteran Tom Heaton. Amorim’s squad reshaping points to a long-term strategy of investing in younger players while moving on from underperforming signings.

Fresh Start for Onana

For Onana, the move to Trabzonspor offers a chance to reset his career in a competitive league. At 29, he still has time to prove himself and potentially earn a return to Europe’s elite stage.

The André Onana Manchester United exit closes a difficult chapter for the goalkeeper but opens the door to redemption in Turkey.
