Five Dead,11 Rescued after Lorry Swept by Floods in Makueni.

Eleven people who were on a truck that was swept away at River Kwa Muswii in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County, have been rescued by the Kenya Red Cross team.

In the evening, the Red Cross managed to save four individuals, while seven more were evacuated to safety earlier.

When the catastrophe occurred on Friday afternoon, the 11 were among a group of people inside the truck.

The victims were rushed to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital where they were treated and discharged.

Five more deaths from the tragedy have been officially confirmed.

According to the county goverment,five more people were missing

“Our emergency response team is reporting five people missing from among those involved in the Muatineni flood accident. 11 people have been rescued, treated at Sultan Hamud Sub-county Hospital and released in stable condition. A multi-agency team of emergency rescuers is doing everything humanly possible to find the missing persons” said the emergency response department on X.

Residents have been warned against crossing swollen rivers during this rainy season.
