The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced plans to intensify collaboration with South Africa’s Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to bolster the fight against corruption across the region.
The strengthened partnership will focus on joint investigations, capacity building, and intelligence sharing to address the growing threat of cross-border graft and financial crimes.
EACC officials noted that the cooperation aims to ensure corruption suspects find no safe haven within Africa. “This alliance will help us recover stolen assets and dismantle sophisticated criminal networks operating beyond our borders,” the commission stated.
The SIU, a specialized South African agency mandated to probe serious malpractice in state institutions, has a long-standing relationship with the EACC. Previous exchanges have involved sharing investigative expertise, but the latest move will formalize and expand joint operations.
This initiative comes amid rising concern over the complexity of corruption schemes that exploit international loopholes. By working together, the EACC and SIU hope to set a new benchmark for regional anti-graft efforts.
